About the Role:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented
Senior Bookkeeper
to own the day-to-day bookkeeping and monthly close for a portfolio of small business clients. This role is focused on accuracy, consistency, and timely financial reporting.
This is an individual contributor role, with no people management responsibilities, where you will focus on single-entity bookkeeping and operate in an efficient, low-friction environment. The ideal candidate is able to
commit to a minimum of 25 hours per week, enjoys independent work, operates confidently and autonomously, has prior remote work experience, and consistently maintains clean, well-documented financial records.

Key Responsibilities:
Accurate & Timely Monthly Bookkeeping
• Perform full monthly bookkeeping and financial reporting for a portfolio of small business clients, on a cash accounting basis.
• Prepare routine journal entries and adjustments as needed.
• Produce monthly financial reports (P&L, Balance Sheet) with minimal to no errors.
• Identify discrepancies and resolve issues independently.
• Demonstrate focus on accuracy and timeliness.
• Demonstrate ability to handle more complex accounting tasks such as equipment purchases, asset capitalization, loan transactions, and payroll reconciliations independently, as needed.
• Participate in peer review of other bookkeepers’ work, providing thoughtful feedback and helping maintain quality and consistency across client files, as needed.
Exceptional Client Service & Communication
• Respond to client questions clearly and thoughtfully in a timely, professional manner.
• Anticipate client needs by identifying trends and potential issues proactively.
• Generate, maintain and distribute client reports on a monthly basis.
• Communicate clearly when additional information is needed to complete work.
Systems & Process Discipline
• Follow established workflows and documentation standards.
• Assist in developing workflows and processes for new clients, as needed.
• Maintain organized documentation and audit trails.
• Flag opportunities for efficiency or clarity in processes.
• Maintain consistent file organization and data hygiene.
• Ability to consistently and accurately track hours by client.
Onboarding, Compliance & Special Projects
• Assist with onboarding new clients.
• Assist with annual filings, 1099 filings, sales tax calculations / filings, corporate registration, and other annual compliance tasks as needed.
• Support special accounting projects as needed, including special projects such as clean-ups or audit requests.
Required Qualifications:
• Experience:
5+ years of professional multi-client bookkeeping experience supporting small businesses using cash-basis accounting.
• Accuracy & Quality Ownership:
Prior experience independently reviewing and quality-checking your own work to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ability to consistently produce clean, well-documented financials with minimal supervision.
• Technical Skills:
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Double (formerly Keeper), Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong Communicator:
Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships both internally and with clients.
