Email & SMS Marketing Strategist (eCommerce – Shopify & BigCommerce)
Overview
We are seeking a data-driven and creative Email & SMS Marketing Strategist with deep experience in eCommerce to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who understands the full customer lifecycle and can own strategy, execution, and optimization of email and SMS programs for Shopify and BigCommerce brands.
You will be responsible for building high-performing lifecycle marketing systems using Klaviyo, driving revenue through flows, campaigns, segmentation, and continuous optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
Develop and execute comprehensive email and SMS marketing strategies tailored to eCommerce clients (Shopify & BigCommerce)
Map customer journeys and lifecycle touchpoints to maximize conversion, retention, and LTV
Collaborate with internal teams (design, dev, account management) to align on client goals and KPIs
Email & SMS Flow Development
Build, launch, and optimize automated flows in Klaviyo, including:
Welcome Series
Abandoned Cart & Browse Abandonment
Post-Purchase & Cross-Sell/Upsell
Winback & Re-engagement
Subscription & Loyalty flows
Implement advanced segmentation and personalization strategies
Continuously test and refine flows based on performance data
SMS Marketing
Set up and manage SMS programs within Klaviyo
Ensure compliance with TCPA and best practices
Build and optimize SMS automations and campaigns
Integrate SMS with email for cohesive omnichannel experiences
Campaign Management
Plan and execute ongoing email and SMS campaigns (promotional, seasonal, product launches)
Own campaign calendar and deployment schedules
Write or oversee compelling, conversion-focused copy
Coordinate with design teams for high-performing creative assets
Optimization & Reporting
Monitor key performance metrics (revenue, open rate, CTR, conversion rate, AOV, list growth)
Conduct A/B testing across subject lines, content, timing, segmentation, and offers
Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve performance
Deliver regular reporting and communicate results to clients/stakeholders
Platform & Technical Expertise
Manage Klaviyo accounts end-to-end
Ensure proper integrations with Shopify and BigCommerce
Maintain list health, deliverability, and compliance best practices
Troubleshoot issues related to flows, tracking, and data syncing
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in email and SMS marketing, preferably in an agency or eCommerce-focused role
Hands-on expertise with Klaviyo (required)
Strong experience with Shopify and/or BigCommerce
Proven track record of building and optimizing revenue-driving flows
Experience managing SMS programs and understanding compliance requirements
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into strategy
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Familiarity with email deliverability best practices
Experience with A/B testing and performance optimization
Nice to Have
Experience working in an agency environment
Knowledge of HTML/CSS for email
Familiarity with additional tools (Postscript, Attentive, Recharge, etc.)
Copywriting or creative direction experience
