Tutor for Grade 8 neurodivergent girl - Paarl
We are looking for a dedicated tutor to support a
bright 13‑year‑old girl at home with homework, projects, orals, general study
preparation, and exam readiness. She is following the IEB curriculum. The
learner is autistic (ASD) with a PDA profile and experiences anxiety. She is
sociable, bubbly, creative, and brings warmth and charm to her learning, with a
keen interest in arts, trends, and all things girly.
The ideal candidate will have strong
neuroaffirming teaching skills, and be able to create a supportive, flexible,
and engaging learning environment. Knowledge and understanding of PDA, with the
ability to apply firm yet gentle neuroaffirming approaches, is essential. The
tutor should be energetic, young at heart, and able to relate to her
temperament and interests, while maintaining consistency and routine.
Main Purpose of the job:
To be a “helping hand” to an individual with
unique and specific challenges and support needs, providing tutoring support
across homework, projects, orals, and exam preparation. The role involves
guiding her academic progress while fostering confidence, consistency, and
routine. A passion for supporting neurodivergent learners, combined with the
ability to apply firm yet gentle, neuroaffirming approaches, is of utmost
importance.
Job Objectives:
· Fill in all gaps with school requirements, including projects, orals,
homework, and exam/test preparation.
· Assist with breaking down tasks and chunking information as needed.
· Facilitate her understanding and academic learning in a structured or
semi‑structured environment by implementing visual schedules to support
planning and organisation.
· Provide scaffolding for executive functioning skills (planning,
organising, problem‑solving, asking for help).
· Reduce uncertainty and ease potential anxiety by offering proactive
support and identifying possible triggers.
· Create and design visual learning resources as needed.
· Collaborate effectively with parents, teachers, and multidisciplinary
team members.
· Respect contractual requirements and maintain clear communication with
parents.

· Familiarity and knowledge
of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) – Essential.
· Knowledge and understanding of PDA, with ability to apply

Working Hours:
· Mondays: 16h30 – 18h00
· Tuesdays: 15h15 – 17h30
· Wednesdays: 16h30 – 18h00
· Thursdays: Fortnightly 15h15
– 17h30; alternate Thursday evening 30‑minute video call to consolidate work.
· Fridays: None (pending
workload)
· Additional Hours:
Opportunity to work extra hours (compensated at overtime rates) on Saturdays
and/or Sundays during exams or periods of higher workload.
Benefits
Hourly Rate:
- R250–R350
per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Estimated
Monthly Salary (based on stipulated hours): Approx. R4,500 – R6,300 per month (excluding optional overtime).

Neurodiversity Centre’s Facilitation Academy and its multi‑disciplinary team,
knowledgeable in the field of Neurodiversity.
