Role Description
This is a full-time remote role for a Lead Bookkeeper. As a Lead Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing financial statements, recording journal entries, and utilizing accounting software. You will play a key role in ensuring financial data accuracy and providing essential support for financial decision-making, while gradually taking on more ownership of client relationships. The ideal candidate for this position is motivated to develop into an Account Manager, assuming broader responsibilities for client communication, advisory support, and strategic oversight of assigned accounts over time.
This position will be a long-term remote role with a full-time schedule: 35-40 hours per week (7-8 hrs per day), with the majority of your work performed between 9:00 am -5:00 pm CT. This role must be your first priority in terms of work/employment. You will be unable to work full-time elsewhere and satisfactorily complete the duties required of this position (i.e., it’s not a side hustle).
This role demands availability that aligns with our team’s operational needs, including essential meetings, collaborative projects, and client interactions during business hours. Our work environment values flexibility but also requires a degree of adaptability due to the need for real-time response and active engagement. Fixed availability periods cannot be accommodated in this position.
Responsibilities
Assist a growing portfolio of clients in managing their accounting needs, including (but not limited to):
• Develop agency, leadership, and a sense of ownership of client accounts, with a view toward transitioning into an Account Manager role.
• Active engagement and involvement and the desire to learn, update, and improve processes.
• Data input of day-to-day accounting operations.
• Reconciliation of bank and credit card accounts.
• Accounts payable and accounts receivable support.
• Payroll reconciliation.
• Revenue recognition and point-of-sale data extraction.
• Speaking with clients and answering client accounting procedural questions (with increasing responsibility for client communication as you progress).
• Calculating and entering month-end accruals and adjusting entries.
• Updating the documentation of processes and procedures, as well as quarterly process reviews.
• Communicating with clients in a timely and professional manner.
• Collaborating with senior team members and Account Managers to support client deliverables and gradually assume more account management duties.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Proficiency in bookkeeping and creating accurate journal entries in an organized and efficient manner.
• Experience using accounting software to manage financial records.
• Strong knowledge of financial statements and finance principles.
• Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated interest in professional growth toward a client-facing Account Manager role.
• Previous experience in hospitality or service-based industries is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
Requirements:
• High degree of customer service, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to problem-solve. Learning new programs & problem-solving issues is imperative.
• Proficient with technology; solid knowledge of computer operations and software.
• Must have (or be willing to obtain) a dedicated secure internet connection.
• Strong customer service skills – ability to interact with customers through video and audio tools in a way that is professional, friendly, and reassuring.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Must be located in the United States or Canada.
• Travel to semi-annual in-person Team Retreats. Locations for in-person team meetings will vary.
Experience with the following is preferred (but not required):
• Double (fka Keeper)
• QuickBooks Online
• Receipt capture software (Ramp, etc.)
• Teams
• Microsoft Excel
• Gusto Pro

The Perks, Performance, and Pay:
• The starting pay for this position is $22/hr.
• This position will require 35-40 hours/week (7-8 hours per weekday).
• You will be expected to work primarily between 9:00 am-5:00 pm CT and must generally be available during business hours on a week-to-week basis.
