Product Development Technician (Lighting)
Omnify is a company specializing in lighting solutions, and they are seeking a Product Development Technician to assist with day-to-day operations in product development. This role involves project coordination, document control, and basic lighting control support to ensure smooth workflow and project completion.
Responsibilities
- Maintain Product Development schedules, risk/action logs, and decision logs; prepare a weekly status update
- Book photometry and safety tests; track ETAs for samples, tooling, and lab reports
- Own meeting notes and follow-ups with vendors, labs, and internal teams
- Maintain Approved Vendor Lists (AVLs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), drawing packs, labels/markings, and packaging specifications
- Track and update Engineering Change Orders (ECOs); ensure the newest revisions are saved and shared in the correct folders or PLM system
- Manage the IES and SPD libraries; version spec sheets and installation guides
- Prepare and track sample/tooling purchase orders with Sourcing; receive, photograph, and log results
- Run pre-lab sanity checks (power draw, basic lumen/efficacy math, wiring checklist)
- Assemble first-article bundles (photos, measurements, reports)
- Help with building and assembling prototypes, including wiring, labeling, and preparing samples for testing
- Set up and test DMX/RDM and SPI fixtures; verify polarity, termination, and grounding
- Configure addressing, universes, and pixel maps; create basic scenes/sequences (static looks, chases, fades)
- Export show files/presets for controllers
- Build release bundles (datasheet, IES, certifications, instructions) for Sales/Marketing
- Submit website/portal content requests; ensure traceable links to released revisions
Skills
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Lighting Technology, or a related field
- Strong document discipline and written communication; comfort reading basic technical drawings and wiring diagrams
- Excel/Google Sheets proficiency (XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, PivotTables, basic formulas)
- Familiarity with DMX512/RDM addressing and SPI pixel systems; able to create simple scenes
- Experience with SOP processes and part numbering systems
- Basic lighting knowledge: LM‑79, TM‑30, CRI/CCT, IES files; UL/CSA familiarity
- Hands‑on comfort with small tools and measurement (calipers, multimeter, IR thermometer)
