Financial Analyst
Sun Life Québec is Canada’s leading provider of defined contribution plans and de-risking solutions. The Financial Analyst (Tax) will manage the annual tax production process, ensure accurate financial operations, and maintain robust internal controls while working within the Group Retirement Services team.
Responsibilities
- Manage the annual tax production process to issue annuitant tax slips and prepare amended tax slips for any adjustments and updates
- Compare and reconcile prepared tax slips against government filings reports
- Reconcile various tax slip types with general ledger account balance
- Complete tax accounting entries and manual ad hoc journal entries
- Complete weekly tax remittances and prepare tax sub-filing reconciliations (5 per year)
- Reconciliation of various suspense and balance sheet accounts
- Manage and create various weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly internal management reports, including annuity reconciliations, annuitant count reports, and control/suspense account sign off
- Consult with various business partners including Annuity Operations, Corporate Tax to handle inquiries to investigate individual annuitant transactions
- Investigate, resolve and clear reconciling items in account reconciliations
- Identify and implement process improvement opportunities on an ongoing basis
- Maintain and create accounting business procedures documents
- Assist with assigned tasks and complete ad hoc requests as required
Skills
- Post-secondary degree in a related field and previous accounting experience (reconciliations, audit, internal controls, reporting, etc.)
- Knowledge in general Canadian and Quebec tax slip reporting is an asset
- Knowledge of defined benefit annuity products or pension administration business is an asset
- Experience with SAP or other accounting systems
- Excellent written and communication skills with ability to influence
- Moderate to advanced Excel skills and knowledge
- Ability to work independently, manage time and adhere to strict deadlines
- Team player, ability to multi-task, detail-oriented, strong commitment to quality
- Solid problem solving and analytical skills with attention to accuracy and details
- Develop strong working relationships with GRS Annuity Operations
- Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide
