Contract Mortgage Underwriter Contract | Remote | Per-File Compensation FocusOne Mortgage Solutions is seeking an experienced Contract Mortgage Underwriter to support conventional loan production on a per-file basis. This role is ideal for an underwriter who is efficient, detail-oriented, and comfortable working within SLA-driven turn times while maintaining strong credit quality. This is a 1099 contract position and does not include employee benefits. Scope of Work The Contract Mortgage Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting conventional, non-complex loan files in accordance with Fannie Mae and investor guidelines. Key Responsibilities • Perform initial underwriting reviews and issue underwriting decisions on complete loan submissions • Review and analyze loan documentation including: • Credit reports • Income and asset documentation • Tax returns and bank statements • Appraisals and collateral documentation • Ensure loans meet Fannie Mae, investor, and company underwriting guidelines • Identify and assess risk factors and mitigating circumstances • Review conditions and perform Clear-to-Close (CTC) reviews as assigned • Communicate underwriting decisions and conditions clearly to internal production staff • Maintain quality, consistency, and compliance while meeting established turn-time expectations Qualifications • Minimum 5 years of recent conventional mortgage underwriting experience • Strong working knowledge of Fannie Mae guidelines • Experience underwriting wage-earner income (self-employed or complex income not required) • Ability to manage workload independently and meet SLA-based deadlines • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Experience with Encompass preferred • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools Contract Details • Independent contractor (1099) • Per-file compensation, based on performance and turn times • Work volume provided based on business needs • Equipment, licensing, and work environment provided by contractor Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
