Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all required duties within the patient accounting system, including but not limited to, processing payments, handling billing inquiries, and resolving customer complaints
  • Serve as a primary source for Customer Service assistance, ensuring customer satisfaction and providing timely and accurate resolutions to billing and insurance-related issues
  • Handle a high volume of incoming customer service calls in a call-center environment, responding to patient and provider inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner
  • Maintain a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and professional in all aspects of customer interaction
  • Utilize online payer sites to check claim status, denials, and eligibility, and apply knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPC codes to resolve billing and insurance-related issues
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including billing, coding, and patient accounting, to resolve customer complaints and ensure timely and accurate payment processing
  • Meet daily production and quality standards, ensuring that all customer interactions are handled in a professional and efficient manner

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Two years of recent professional medical billing collection experience, with a strong understanding of patient accounting systems and insurance claims processing
  • Two years of customer service experience, with a proven track record of providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced call-center environment
  • Working experience with Medi-Cal, Medicare, HMO, and PPO insurances, including knowledge of billing and reimbursement guidelines
  • Experience using online payer sites, with the ability to check claim status, denials, and eligibility
  • Knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel software, with the ability to utilize these tools to analyze data and prepare reports
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPC codes, with the ability to apply this knowledge to resolve billing and insurance-related issues
  • Effective multi-tasking skills, with the ability to meet daily production and quality standards in a fast-paced call-center environment

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Certification in medical billing or coding, such as CPC or CPB
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHRs) and practice management systems
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations, including HIPAA and OIG guidelines
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate with patients and providers in multiple languages
