Link to Privacy: https://privacy.nant.com/ Position Description The Network Engineer (NE) will work within the Engineering department to design, engineer, document, integrate, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and install MOX’s Layer 1 (optical) network, Layer 2/3 (packet) DCN network, telemetry systems, security systems, and power systems. MOX’s flex grid optical network is comprised mostly of Ciena 6500 equipment and MOX’s L2/3 DCN network is comprised mostly of Juniper equipment. MOX’s internal network(s) are used to monitor MOX facilities, power equipment, test equipment, switching & routing equipment, and optical transmission equipment. The NE will work remotely but travel as needed domestically and internationally to MOX sites and collocations to resolve troubles, document installations, or install and configure equipment. A valid US passport is required. The NE reports to the EVP Engineering, Planning, & Technology but will primarily work on a day-to-day basis supporting the Principal Engineer, VP of Planning & Systems, and Director of Data Integrity & Provisioning. Responsibility • Support the Engineering, Operations, and Construction departments to develop, implement, configure, and maintain MOX’s network including optical, layer 2/3, alarm, telemetry, power, and security systems. • Create detailed engineering drawings and plans using Visio for the expansion and reconfiguration of MOX’ network. • Write technical scopes of work for the expansion and reconfiguration of MOX’s network. • Supporting network management systems. • Provide remote support for off-hours network maintenance windows as needed. • Provide remote technical support to customers as needed. • Diagnose and resolve network alarms and issues whether they relate to hardware, software, or network components. • Analyze and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, outages, or failures, ensuring quick recovery of services. • Work with MOX’s equipment vendors to implement new software loads and resolve technical issues. • Configure optical nodes, cards, modems, and end-to-end connections/circuits using NMS, EMS, CLI interfaces. • Configure layer 2/3 switches, routers, firewalls and end-to-end connections using EMS, and CLI interfaces. • Support the Principal Engineer with the computer modeling of the network for network expansion, maintenance, and reconfiguration. • Provide network solutions for Sales and Sales Engineering. • Identify and report on network vulnerabilities, equipment obsolescence, and capacity constraints. • Assist in the design, engineering, installation, and implementation of monitoring system(s) for facility infrastructure: battery, rectifier, HVAC, generator, audio, and video equipment. • Assist in the design and engineering of MOX’s remote monitoring and telemetry network. • All Other Duties as Assigned. Qualifications • 7-10 years of experience working in telecommunications and 3-5 years of experience in a design and engineering role. • In-depth knowledge of and direct experience working with DWDM optical transport systems, Ethernet networks, inside plant infrastructure, power plants, and fiber optic cable. • Excellent computer skills to include MS Office applications, Visio, Word, and Excel. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving network/system issues. • Experience working with layer 1, layer 2 & layer 3 networking devices such as optical transport, routers, switches, and firewalls. • Understanding of basic networking protocols (OSPF, BGP, RIP, ISIS, etc.), IP addressing, VPN, DNS, etc. • Understanding of network monitoring protocols such as SNMP, Syslog, ICMP, etc. • Familiarity with CAD software and ability to create technical design drawings. • Ability to work flexible hours and support on-call duties as required. • Ability to travel domestically to all states in the USA, Canada, Japan, & Brazil to MOX sites, colocations, and shelters in support of positions responsibilities. • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn. • Ability to resolve complex problems following standard practices, using judgment within defined policies and guidelines. • Experience reviewing and interpreting electrical schematics, building plans, civil plans, inside plant drawings, and outside plant drawings. • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology, network Administration, or computer science & software. • Must be attentive to detail, organized, able to work independently and exhibit self-motivation. • Must possess good interpersonal skills in relating to client personnel and the public. • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Must be self-motivated, work well within a team environment, and work independently. Pay Range Statement: This is the pay range the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. Compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position.
