Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Staff Data Scientist to join our Data Ventures team, a nimble startup incubated within blithequark that is building a best-in-class suite of Data Products to deliver actionable, customer-centric insights. As a Staff Data Scientist, you will work as the tech lead for all data science-related work, focusing on Customer Data Science initiatives that drive business growth and improvement. This role offers a unique opportunity to mentor junior colleagues, implement best practices, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge data products that transform the retail landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Source Identification: Understand the concerned order of requirements and service level agreements, define and identify the most appropriate resources for required data, and perform initial data quality tests on extracted data.
  • Problem Formulation: Analyze business problems, question assumptions, and identify methods to solve them, setting data analytics goals and deliverables based on success criteria and outlining key metrics to measure progress and effectiveness.
  • Analytical Modeling: Select suitable modeling strategies for complex problems with large-scale, multiple structured and unstructured data sets, develop variables and functions iteratively, and conduct exploratory data analysis activities.
  • Model Deployment & Scaling: Work with MLOps to push ML models to production, continuously log and track model behavior, and identify model parameters that may require adjustments depending on the scale of deployment.
  • Code Development & Testing: Write code to develop specified solutions and application features, create test cases to study and validate proposed solution designs, and contribute to code documentation and playbooks.
  • Applied Business Acumen: Evaluate proposed business cases for projects and initiatives, influence business stakeholder decision-making, and translate business requirements into strategies, projects, and initiatives that align with business strategy and goals.
  • Model Assessment & Validation: Identify and review model assessment metrics based on analytical requirements, apply appropriate techniques for model testing and tuning, and ensure testing data is documented and maintained by the team.
  • Data Visualization and Storytelling: Identify and recommend the most appropriate visualization tools based on context, generate suitable graphical representations of data and model outcomes, and build compelling stories based on context to integrate multiple pieces of information into cohesive insights.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in an analytics-related field, with deep knowledge and understanding of machine learning, statistics, and data science.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one of Python or R.
  • Ability to execute projects end-to-end, including junior colleagues, and implement best practices in ML Ops, coding standards, and more.
  • Clear communication skills to effectively interact with business, product, and application partners.
  • Ability to translate complex algorithm evaluations into simple language and present to management and external clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related field, such as a Master's or Ph.D.
  • Experience working with large-scale data sets and complex data systems.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based technologies and data platforms.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems.
  • Strong understanding of business acumen and the ability to drive business growth through data-driven insights.
