Substation Civil Engineer - Client Lead

Primary Purpose

The Substation Civil Engineer – Client Lead develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to complex substation design projects. This individual serves as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, building and maintaining strong relationships while leading technical execution and delivery.

A person in this role is recognized as a key internal technical resource and external client representative, providing guidance across multidisciplinary teams and ensuring alignment between client expectations and project outcomes. This role requires regular travel to client sites to support project coordination, relationship management, and business growth.

Job Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, leading communication and building strong, long-term relationships
• Travel to client sites to support collaboration, project execution, and client engagement
• Lead civil/structural design for substation projects, including site development, grading, drainage, and foundations
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and oversee technical execution to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and CAD staff
• Identify client needs and support business development efforts, including contributing to proposals and expanding services

Experience

• 10–15 years of progressive experience in civil/structural engineering, with a strong focus on substation design.

• Demonstrated experience serving in a client-facing or client lead capacity, including direct interaction with utility or energy clients.

• Proven ability to lead technical execution on multidisciplinary projects and mentor engineering teams.

• Experience coordinating across disciplines and managing engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or required based on role and client needs.

• Willingness and ability to travel to client sites on a regular basis
