Freight Dispatcher

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Freight Dispatcher to coordinate and manage the transportation of freight across various routes and carriers. In this vital role, you will serve as the central communication hub, ensuring timely dispatching, efficient routing, and seamless logistics operations. Duties • Coordinate daily freight dispatching activities using transportation management systems (TMS) such as Oracle Transportation Management and SyteLine to assign shipments to carriers effectively. • Utilize GPS and GIS tools to monitor vehicle locations, optimize routes, and ensure on-time deliveries. • Communicate clearly with drivers, carriers, warehouse teams, and clients via multi-line phone systems while maintaining professional phone etiquette. • Enter accurate data related to shipments, delivery schedules, and driver logs into systems like AS400 and transportation management platforms. • Track freight movements using GPS technology, analyze route efficiency, and adjust plans accordingly for maximum productivity. • Collaborate with 3PL providers (third-party logistics companies) to coordinate shipping & receiving activities and resolve any issues promptly. • Maintain detailed records of dispatch activities, shipment statuses, and incident reports to support supply chain transparency and compliance. Skills • Strong knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), Oracle Transportation Management, SyteLine, and AS400 platforms. • Proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS tracking, and transportation planning tools for route optimization. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly over phone calls and written correspondence. • Effective data entry skills with high accuracy in typing and record-keeping within complex logistics software. • Analysis skills to evaluate freight routes, delivery times, fleet utilization, and overall dispatch efficiency. • Familiarity with shipping & receiving procedures, fleet management practices, and 3PL operations. • Ability to multitask efficiently using multi-line phone systems while managing high volumes of dispatch requests.
