Organ Optimization Educator

Description The Organ Optimization Educator (OOE) works closely with clinical staff, ODS managers, and the Procurement Optimization Training team (Training team) to increase organ donation and optimize organ utilization through the delivery and implementation of effective and efficient clinical training and education programs. The OOE is a clinical education leader responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the onboarding and precepting programs for Organ Recovery Coordinators (ORCs) and Organ Donation Coordinators (ODCs) (designated roles). The OOE serves as a principal resource for clinical education related to organ donation across the organization, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and national best practices. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Clinical Training and Education: Establishes and maintains a comprehensive clinical education program focused onboarding and continuing education for designated roles. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical guidelines and practices. • Responsible for effectiveness of onboarding process within established timeframes. Training and Education follow current regulatory guidelines and compliance standards. Provides strategic direction for clinical training initiatives aligned with organizational goals. • Outcome: Oversees all aspects of onboarding for designated roles. Facilitates instructor-led clinical training in person, virtually, and onsite during case activity. • Assessment: Facilitates instructor-led training across multiple modalities (in-person, virtual, field-based, e-learning) and ensures timely, competency-based progression through orientation. • Intervention: Proactively manages the onboarding program and develops curriculum that is effective and in line with current practices, standards, and policies. Tracks orientee progress and adjusts onboarding pathways based on individual needs and performance outcomes. • This position oversees the designated roles during onboarding and is responsible for tracking their progress through an effective orientation. • Outcome: Responsible for the progress of designated roles during onboarding including instruction and ensuring completion of assignments and appropriate clinical experiences. • Assessment: Accurately keeps records of orientees, guides process and collaborates with the appropriate leadership and preceptors to manage schedules and orientee assignments. Assesses the needs of orientees and adapts training and education appropriately. • Intervention: Engages in continuous process improvement efforts, applying adult learning principles and clinical expertise to enhance training quality. Supports clinical staff in group settings and on a 1:1 basis. • This position may work directly with designated roles onsite and during simulations to assess knowledge, ability and progress toward core competency signoffs and independent job functions. • Outcome: Signs off designated roles in a timely and efficient manner and identifies when they can independently function in their roles. • Assessment: Assesses orientees directly onsite and/or during simulation and gathers feedback from preceptors and other appropriate staff members. • Intervention: Collaborates with Training Team, leadership, preceptors and other clinical staff to ensure timely feedback is being given and training needs are being met through direct observation and assessment. • Establishes and maintains an effective Precepting Program and oversees all functions including the structure of preceptor approval, education and meetings. Accountable for the development and maintenance of processes and resources for consistent standards of precepting. • Outcome: Maintains a standardized Preceptor Program where preceptor expectations are met, and preceptors teach to established standards in the field. • Assessment: Assesses the Preceptor Program at a set interval, identifies opportunities and leads improvement initiatives. • Intervention: Collaborates with stakeholders to identify needs for development and improvement, assists in coaching and mentoring preceptors, and creates up to date resources and tools for preceptors to utilize. Training and Education Development: Actively engages in process improvement efforts, in collaboration with the P Training Team to advance the clinical training program. Incorporates principles of andragogy, recognizing varied learning styles, and applies effective teaching methodologies. • Assists with design and development of simulated clinical training courses that align with strategic and organizational goals • Outcome: Collaborates with the PTraining Team to update and create clinical education courses. • Assessment: Identifies content requiring updating or development and demonstrates initiative to make the needed changes. • Intervention: Updates and develops training and education as needed using various modalities including use of LMS, and remote delivery of content. • Collaborates with stakeholders to provide foundational skills review training for ongoing education. • Outcome: The OOE develops and delivers material for continuing education to support annual competency review. • Assessment: Works with leadership in planning and execution of ongoing training and education sessions with designated roles as well as other clinical roles. • Intervention: Contributes to workgroups focused on ongoing educational needs of designated roles. Orientee/Preceptor Development and Mentorship: Provides mentorship and support to designated roles during onboarding and ongoing guidance to preceptors. • Encourages critical thinking, ensures timely completion of duties, and provides real time coaching and feedback including areas of opportunity and positive recognition. • Outcome: Establishes strong working relationships with orientees and preceptors; provides regular feedback and coaching for growth and success. • Assessment: Provides real-time, tangible feedback as indicated during activity reviews, in meetings and on a 1:1 basis as appropriate. This position informs departmental leadership to collaborate with coaching/feedback and individualized plans. • Intervention: In collaboration with departmental leadership and other stakeholders, serves as a mentor and provides ongoing feedback during onboarding and regarding preceptor duties. Communication and Collaboration: Ensures effective communication and coordination regarding education and training with appropriate stakeholders. • Develops and maintains effective communication and productive professional relationships with internal and external partners including transplant centers, hospital partners and donation organizations. • Outcome: Works closely with Learning and Development, clinical trainers, departmental leadership and clinical staff as well as external partners to optimize and align training functions with operations. • Assessment: Frequently updates established modes of communications with clinical staff and leadership. Clearly communicates with Resource Triage Coordinators (RTCs) and Administrators On-Call (AOCs) as needed to ensure appropriate orientee/preceptor assignments and alignment of educational needs. • Intervention: Attends departmental meetings and clinical case reviews as appropriate and regularly updates appropriate leadership on orientees and preceptors. Communicates directly with RTCs and AOCs and collaborates with Quality. Administrative and Quality Duties: Completes timely and accurate documentation in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and LifeCenter policies and procedures. • * Outcome: Maintains accurate records for onboarding and precepting functions. • Assessment: Keeps an organized record of training, progress, and core competencies throughout onboarding and can guide the orientee appropriately to onboarding completion using milestones to ensure timely progress is made. • Intervention: Completes and updates all training documents at regular intervals ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations and policies. Supervision • This position collaborates with departmental leadership to ensure employees are appropriately trained and provided with resources to successfully complete job duties. This position serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Other Responsibilities • Participates in, and may lead, employee committees and events. • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, and LifeCenter policies and procedures. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES • Must have advanced clinical skills and the ability to improve processes and outcomes with the use of critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving capabilities. • Excellent interpersonal skills and constructive communication abilities • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under deadline constraints. • Must be able to analyze and assess situations, create solutions, and motivate others to continually improve the processes necessary to meet organizational goals. • Ability to learn new tools, applications, and technologies quickly and independently. • Efficient in writing and editing standards including grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary. • This individual must demonstrate operating knowledge of computers with a demonstrable, intermediate level skill (at a minimum) with Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and other comparable software programs. • This position may require the ability to operate specialized equipment, such as audio-visual equipment. Physical Activities/Requirements • This position will require training in locations throughout the LifeCenter designated service area (DSA) with some advanced planning ability. • Must be willing to work in an office and hospital setting, where exposure to bio-hazardous materials could occur. • This position requires the ability to effectively operate phones, computers, and other office equipment. • The individual must have the ability to communicate clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the phone. • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. • Generally, working conditions do not require exposure to hazardous materials nor extremes in health and safety hazards. Work is normally performed in an office or hospital setting as well as other business environments. • This position is required to follow hospital immunization, health screening, and background check requirements. Immunizations and tests will be provided by LifeCenter as required. • The employee is required to move up to 35 pounds with or without assistance. ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENT Because of the nature of this position, the incumbent may need to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, sometimes without advance notice. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS • Experience working as a Registered Nurse, Physician’s Assistant, or other relevant health care practitioner. • Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred. • CPTC required. • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in organ recovery or other applicable work experience. • Must also possess valid state or federally issued identification suitable for air travel • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or applicable medical or religious exemption, will be required as a condition of employment upon offer.
