Editorial Director, K–12 Writing Curriculum Textbook Series
About the Role
Brown Bear Education is developing a comprehensive Grade 1–12 Writing Curriculum Textbook Series aligned with U.S. academic standards. We are seeking an experienced Editorial Director with proven textbook publishing experience to lead the structural and editorial development of this multi-volume series.
This role requires direct experience in U.S. K–12 textbook publishing, preferably in Writing or English Language Arts (ELA), with involvement in full production cycles of a multi-level textbook series.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the editorial vision and structural design of a multi-grade writing textbook series
• Design and refine scope and sequence to ensure strong vertical alignment
• Establish editorial standards and quality benchmarks
• Oversee developmental editing and guide curriculum authors
• Design and supervise the full textbook production workflow (concept → manuscript → revision → copyedit → layout → proof → final production)
• Advise on author recruitment and contributor management
• Provide guidance on production budgeting and workflow planning
• Conduct milestone reviews to ensure rigor and coherence across volumes
Required Qualifications (Hard Requirements)
• 7+ years of experience in U.S. K–12 textbook publishing
• Direct experience working on a multi-level textbook series (not standalone materials)
• Participation in at least one full textbook production cycle
• Active involvement in textbook publishing within the past 5 years
• Strong background in Writing or English Language Arts curriculum
• Demonstrated experience managing authors and editorial workflows
• Practical experience integrating AI-assisted tools into editorial or production workflows
This role is not suitable for candidates whose experience is limited to classroom teaching, instructional design only, or single-course online curriculum development.
