On-Site Retail Consultant: 4-5 Day Initial Assessment (Vancouver, WA) + Ongoing Support

About the Job On site work required. Must be driving distance from Vancouver, WA. We are a small high ticked retail business based in Vancouver, Washington (just across the river from Portland, Oregon). Big ticket sales is a majority of our revenue. We’re looking for an experienced freelance business consultant specializing in retail to conduct an in-depth initial assessment and provide ongoing strategic support. WE also need help assessing our management and diagnosing a drop in our sales. Engagement Structure Initial Assessment (4-5 consecutive days on-site) On-site presence at our store in Vancouver, WA Comprehensive review to include operations, merchandising/layout, inventory, customer flow, staffing, financials, marketing, and growth opportunities Deliver a detailed report with prioritized recommendations and an actionable plan Ongoing Support Monthly check-ins (virtual or in-person as needed), typically 4–8 hours per month Implementation guidance, progress reviews, troubleshooting, and adjustments to the plan Flexible — can increase/decrease based on needs What We Need Help With Operations improvement (inventory, merchandising, staffing, customer experience) Marketing and customer acquisition (local foot traffic, digital presence, promotions) Financial analysis and cost control Overall strategy and scalable growth for small retail Project Type Phase 1 (Initial Assessment): Fixed-price preferred (please propose a total fee for the 4-5 days) Phase 2 (Ongoing): Hourly or monthly retainer Long-term relationship strongly preferred Preferred Qualifications Proven track record consulting for small brick-and-mortar retail businesses (boutiques, specialty stores, etc.) Deep experience with hands-on, on-site retail assessments Available to commit to 4-5 consecutive on-site days in Vancouver, WA in the near future Based in or able to travel to the Portland/Vancouver/Seattle area (local strongly preferred) Excellent communication and ability to deliver clear, actionable plans References or case studies from similar retail engagements Budget Ongoing monthly support: $60–$120/hour or equivalent retainer How to Apply Please include in your proposal: Your experience with small retail businesses and on-site assessments 1–2 relevant examples or success stories (especially initial intensive assessments) Confirmation of availability for a 4-5 day consecutive on-site engagement in Vancouver, WA (suggest possible start dates if possible) Your proposed fixed fee for the initial assessment and hourly/retainer rate for ongoing work How you would structure the 4-5 day on-site assessment We’re excited to find a consultant who can dive in deeply upfront and then serve as a trusted ongoing advisor.
