Learning & Development Specialist - Operations
The Learning and Development Specialist - Operations will play a key role in connecting Learning & Development with Operations. This position focuses on facilitating the onboarding and ongoing support for new Import Specialist hires within Deringer’s Operations team. The responsibilities include designing, developing, and enhancing training materials, such as Import 101 and Deringer-specific programs, to ensure new team members are adequately prepared for a smooth transition into their positions. The role also involves supporting the transition from the learning environment to practical application within their respective Operations teams. Additionally, the specialist will aid in managing our internal Learning Management System and will be dedicating 20% of their time to Operations to stay current on industry trends and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, allowing for effective engagement with team members across all levels. They should be adept at pinpointing learning needs and devising innovative solutions to address them. A background in operations or relevant training experience is essential, as it provides vital insight to align training initiatives with operational goals.
Job Responsibilities:
• Develop training materials to support both routine and new training programs, while continuously improving the onboarding experience for new hires.
• Create supplementary resources for Import 101.
• Support our internal Learning Management System by assigning learning materials to new hires and tracking their progress.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and connect with various experts regarding instruction and scheduling.
• Work alongside the L&D Specialist to design comprehensive learning paths.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to all newly hired Import Specialists.
• Stay informed about operational regulations and processes.
• Provide feedback based on outcomes of training, while ensuring the hiring manager is updated on progress.
• Coordinate onboarding sessions, additional training with subject matter experts (SMEs), and individual meetings with both the manager and the new hire.
• Evaluate training effectiveness by monitoring feedback surveys and analyzing performance and retention metrics to ensure all needs are addressed.
• Create a series of interactive modules within the LMS that incorporate multimedia elements such as videos, quizzes, and case studies to accommodate various learning styles.
• Schedule regular updates and revisions to the learning paths to align with industry trends and organizational goals.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning by collaborating with the L&D Team and Engagement Specialist to promote the learning paths through internal communications and showcasing success stories from team members who have completed the training.
The hourly range of compensation for this position is $27.00-$32.00
This position is remote. Our HR team gathers in person at our St. Albans, VT headquarters once every quarter, and we would prefer the selected candidate to be within a reasonable travel distance, if possible.
Education/Experience
A minimum of two years in a brokerage-related role, preferably at Deringer. Proven record of helping to train/onboard new colleagues and understanding of the organization’s structure regarding lines of business and ports. An understanding of adult learning principles is highly preferred. A high school diploma is required; certifications/licenses and a demonstration of continuing education is preferred.
