Mortgage Loan Underwriter – Encompass Expert Wanted! Remote | Full-Time | LendSmart Mortgage, a Division of American Pacific Mortgage LendSmart Mortgage is hiring! We’re looking for an experienced Mortgage Loan Underwriter to join our team and help us deliver a smooth, accurate, and drama-free experience for our borrowers, branches and partners. What You’ll Be Doing: As a Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you’ll play a key role in ensuring quality lending decisions that align with Agency and company guidelines. You’ll analyze complex financial, credit and collateral information, assess risk, and make sound credit decisions to deliver an exceptional borrower experience while protecting the company. Responsibilities: • Review and analyze loan applications, credit reports, income documentation, and appraisal data to determine eligibility and compliance with Agency guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA, Bonds, etc.) • Evaluate the borrower’s capacity, credit, collateral, and overall risk to ensure sound credit decisions • Render accurate and timely underwriting decisions • Communicate clearly with processors, loan officers, and other team members to resolve conditions and maintain pipeline efficiency • Apply sound judgment and consistency in balancing risk management with service and production goals • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lending regulations, policies, and secondary market requirements Must-Haves: • Minimum 5 years of current FHA, VA, Conventional, USDA and Bond loan underwriting experience in the Banked/Retail channel of mortgage lending • Minimum 2 years of current experience using Encompass • Detail-oriented mindset with ninja-level organization • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote work environment • A passion for getting it right the first time Why LendSmart: • Competitive salary and performance bonuses • Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k), Life Insurance, ESOP, PTO • Supportive leadership team that actually listens • Culture that blends high standards with humor, hustle, and heart • Remote flexibility + tools that empower you to do your best work LendSmart is not your average mortgage company.
