Highway Designer
GFT is currently seeking a Highway Designer / Highway Engineer to join their Eastern PA highway team. This role focuses on designing projects for clients such as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and involves delivering quality design work and building client relationships.
Responsibilities
- As part of a team, perform engineering design tasks for transportation and/or municipal projects including studies, preliminary engineering, and final design
- Learn about design tools including Microstation and Open Roads software
- Develop construction contract documents including plans, specifications, cost estimates
- Establish working relationships and contacts with client technical staff and project managers especially in PennDOT, local governments, and private clients
- Learn about different aspects of highway and municipal design including construction staging, stormwater management, traffic signals, highway design and interchange layout, landscaping, utilities, sidewalks/trails, culverts, and bridges
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent is required
- Fundamentals of Engineering (PE) License registered in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain within 1 year is required
- Effective time management, technical and interpersonal skills
- Articulate with a professional presence and solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills
- Ability to grow your knowledge, expertise, leadership skills, and relationships over time
- Prior experience with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike projects is desirable, but not required
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to grow while working in a team environment, demonstrated organizational skills, self-motivated, and a commitment to continuous improvement
