[Remote] Staff Accountant

Kaplan is a leading global provider of high-quality educational services, and they are seeking a Staff Accountant to oversee the quality and accuracy of financial statements. The role involves preparing journal entries, performing month-end close procedures, and ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.


Responsibilities

  • Preparation and posting of standard/adjusting journal entries
  • Perform month-end close procedures and meet all deadlines
  • Review and analyze revenue reports for accuracy in accordance with GAAP
  • Interact with field personnel to ensure subsidiary ledger and financial statement accuracy
  • Financial statement review including detailed variance analysis of profit and loss and balance sheet statements
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate/resolve reconciling items
  • Assist with audit requests and interact with internal/external auditors
  • Ensure proper internal controls are maintained for corporate/field financial processes
  • Perform various high level ad-hoc analyses and complete special requests as assigned by management
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree; Accounting major
  • 1+ years accounting experience required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting including: Revenue Recognition, Inventory, Accounts Receivable, Allowance for Doubtful Accounts, Accruals, P&L variances
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Must be proficient in Excel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new business systems/applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Oracle experience preferred
