Entry-Level Transit/Rail Engineer - Networking Event with AECOM – Raleigh

They are seeking an Entry-Level Transit/Rail Engineer to support their growing Transit and Rail practice in North Carolina, working on various transit and rail projects and collaborating with experienced engineers and planners.


Responsibilities

  • Support planning, preliminary engineering, and detailed design for rail and transit infrastructure projects, including freight, commuter rail, light rail, streetcar, bus rapid transit (BRT), and transit facilities
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, technical reports, and specifications under the supervision of senior engineers
  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard engineering procedures, methods, and criteria to complete design tasks
  • Preparing engineering‑related calculations, drawings, and visual aids to support project development
  • Assisting project managers and senior engineers with task production and coordination
  • Applying civil and transportation engineering principles and practices to assigned projects
  • Assisting with maintaining project documentation and files in accordance with project and quality requirements
  • Producing high‑quality plan sets that accurately and clearly communicate design intent
  • Working under the supervision of a project manager or senior‑level team member
  • Collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary project teams while gaining exposure to project delivery processes, schedules, and budgets

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be organized and detail-oriented
  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software
  • Willingness to travel (if and when required)
  • Master's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
  • Familiarity in freight or transit rail clients
  • Previous work experience in rail is preferred
