Tax Technician (Permanent Intermittent)
The California Franchise Tax Board is seeking a Tax Technician to support the California Tax Education Council. This role involves managing day-to-day operations, ensuring tax preparer compliance, and interfacing with tax professionals to provide necessary education and enforcement activities.
Responsibilities
- Administer the education and enforcement activities related to the provisions of the California Business and Professions Code
- Interface regularly with tax professionals and members of CTEC either in person or by phone or email
- Maintain and enhance cooperation and communication with CTEC
- Ensure tax preparer compliance with CTEC
- Identify unregistered tax preparers
- Educate on tax preparer requirements
- Provide necessary follow up actions
- Assist with the MyFTB tax professional verification process
- Verifying tax professionals, their credentials and relationships created with their online account
- Some in-state travel is required

- Knowledge of Personal Income Tax (PIT) laws, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of Franchise Tax Board (FTB) systems and applications such as: Integrated Non filer Compliance (INC), Taxpayer Information (TI), Taxpayer Folder (TPF), Case Management (CM), Accounts Receivable Collection System (ARCS), Lexis-Nexis, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and other systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel, pivot tables)
- Experience working in a contact center or business area with an Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) line
- Strong organizational, time management, flexible, decision-making and research skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with others and obtain their cooperation
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze information and draw sound, well documented conclusions
- Ability to present ideas and information effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and shift priorities and resources to meet desired deadlines
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment while demonstrating initiative, integrity, ownership, and accountability

- Travel may be required January-June throughout California
