Utility Electrical Engineer I
New Leaf Energy is an experienced clean energy developer focused on accelerating the transition to renewable energy. They are seeking a Utility Electrical Engineer I to work with internal and external stakeholders on evaluating PV sites, designing interconnection facilities, and ensuring compliance with utility standards.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate utility impact studies for accuracy, required design changes, and cost estimates
- Assist project developers in the evaluation of potential PV sites and provide estimates of interconnection costs
- Review interconnection drawings and application packages for compliance with relevant utility standards and regulatory obligations
- Manage technical aspects of interconnection process for projects
- Attend field design meetings with relevant utility companies
- Perform power systems modeling including coordination studies and effective grounding studies
- Participate in internal process time and quality improvement initiatives
Skills
- At least 1-3 years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution
- Understanding of distribution system impacts associated with the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER), as well as techniques for mitigating common distribution system impacts
- Ability to use design standards to complete engineering deliverables and perform analysis
- Knowledge of how to perform load calculations, short-circuit, and coordination studies
- Experience with power systems modeling software such as SKM, Aspen, or PSSe
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
- Co-Op/Internship Experience in the power industry
