UK Legal Consultant Privacy Policy and Terms (DEFRA Microchip Compliance) - Contract to Hire
We are looking for a UK-based legal consultant or paralegal to review and update our website Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Cookie Policy to ensure alignment with UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and DEFRA requirements for pet microchip databases.
Our platform operates a UK microchip registration and lookup system for pets. This role is focused on practical compliance, not theoretical legal analysis.
What You’ll Do
•Review our existing:
o Privacy Policy
o Terms of Service
o Cookie Policy / consent language
• Update and adapt language to align with:
o UK GDPR & Data Protection Act 2018
o DEFRA expectations for microchip database operators
• Flag and correct any non-compliant or risky claims (e.g. “DEFRA compliant / recognised” wording)
• Provide publish-ready documents we can deploy on the website
• Deliver a short checklist of:
o What is compliant
o What needs to be adjusted operationally (if any)

Required Experience
• UK-based (required)
• Legal background as a paralegal, legal consultant, or solicitor
• Experience drafting or reviewing:
o Privacy Policies
o Terms & Conditions
o Cookie Policies
• Strong understanding of:
o UK GDPR
o Data Protection Act 2018
o Cookie / consent requirements (PECR)
Nice to Have
• Experience with regulated platforms, registries, or lookup databases
• Familiarity with the pet / veterinary / animal welfare sector
Deliverables
• Updated Privacy Policy

• Short compliance checklist (1–2 pages)
Engagement
