Title: Tax Consultant (Seasonal) Reports to: Manager of Tax Performance Location: KS/MO/OK/TX in-office preferred; Remote/Hybrid Eligible About the Role At PaulHood, we are transforming the mid-market CPA industry with an entirely new model. Our year-round membership model provides clients with expert tax and financial guidance, helping them feel more secure and realize their long-term financial goals. Founded 30 years ago by Paul Hood, our company has grown rapidly and now serves over 15,000 customers nationwide. To support our continued growth, we have completely modernized our business with technology and processes more akin to a SaaS company than a CPA firm. In response to this growth, we are seeking a Seasonal Tax Consultant to serve as a player-coach—preparing and reviewing tax returns while mentoring Staff Preparers. In this role, you’ll help support day-to-day tax operations, assist in staff development, and build strong relationships with clients. You’ll also partner with the Senior Tax Consultants to lead tax initiatives and ensure high-quality, timely service across a range of individual and business engagements. To do this well, you’ll need to be detail-driven, highly organized, and confident interacting with clients’ complex tax situations. You’ll bring a calm, solution-oriented mindset to a fast-paced environment and be ready to guide others, contribute to tax planning strategies, and maintain strong client relationships. You’ll also need to demonstrate professionalism, expertise in specialized areas of tax, and a passion for developing others. What You Will Bring, Do, and Own • Prepare and review accurate and timely tax returns for individuals and businesses. • Mentor and aid in the training of Staff Preparers to ensure team success. • Review prepared returns for accuracy and compliance, identifying and addressing any issues. • Oversee multiple tax compliance and consulting projects simultaneously. • Assist in resolving IRS notices and collaborate with the Tax Resolution team. • Provide input on tax planning strategies for both individual and business clients. • Research complex tax topics and communicate findings clearly to clients and team members. • Maintain strong client relationships, responding to inquiries and identifying growth opportunities. • Serve as a point of contact for audit-related matters when needed. • Ensure efficient and accurate tax return entry, timekeeping, and use of firm systems. • Achieve a billable percentage of 75% each quarter. • Conduct client facing tax planning meetings Experience and Education You Will Need • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent relevant experience required. • 5+ years of tax preparation experience, including individual and business returns. • At least 3 years of prior management or supervisory experience strongly preferred. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. • CPA or EA required, proof is required Who You Are • You demonstrate deep knowledge of tax laws and specialized expertise in areas such as business returns, trusts, and estates. • You are skilled at reviewing tax returns and quickly identifying issues and opportunities. • You’re detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines with poise. • You are solution-focused and able to resolve tax issues with professionalism and care. • You excel in client communication and building lasting professional relationships. • You’re tech-savvy, eager to learn new systems, and efficient in tax preparation and time tracking. • You understand the importance of confidentiality, ethics, and leading by example. What’s In It For You In the past, some seasonal team members have gone on to find long-term opportunities on our team at the end of the seasonal project. While this can't be guaranteed and depends on business needs at the time, we're always happy to consider seasonal team members for any opportunities that may arise. Whether with us short-term or long-term, you will join a forward-thinking team that is reshaping the future of the tax and accounting industry. With a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, our gender-balanced leadership group reflects our belief in the power of varied perspectives to drive innovation. You’ll align with an organization that helps its clients optimize their financial health, enabling them to keep more, save more, and protect more of their money so they can use it for the things they care about most. In addition to the inherent satisfaction of aligning with a business that is changing the lives of thousands of people, you will receive stock options to align your rewards with the success of the company. Importantly, you’ll be part of a team that prioritizes trust, collaboration and having fun. We work hard and value rest. EEO and Diversity Statement PaulHood is an equal opportunity employer.
