U.S. Tax Planning & Counsel
About the position
Responsibilities
• Develop and lead implementation of tax planning strategies, identifying key company and tax legislative drivers, inclusive of project management activities such as creating step plans, managing cross-functional teams, and creating management presentations.
• Monitor and interpret proposed tax legislative and regulatory changes, quantify potential impact, and identify planning opportunities to optimize tax implications.
• Provide advice and counsel regarding US income tax matters including implications of proposed business transactions and internal restructurings.
• Partner with business groups to support operational tax related matters.
• Research complex tax issues and prepare memoranda to document technical positions summarizing facts, law, and conclusions.
• Provide support for US income tax audits, including drafting responses, protests, and other technical documentation to defend the company's positions.
• Support tax accounting function including documenting FIN 48 positions, APB23 analysis, and reviewing foreign inclusion calculations.
• Provide coaching and training to other tax department members including application of tax laws and regulations, filing requirements, disclosures, statements, and elections.
• Identify and drive process improvements and efficiencies for areas of responsibility.
Requirements
• Juris Doctor degree required; LLM in Taxation preferred.
• Member of Texas bar or licensed to practice law in another state and eligible for Texas bar.
• Typically five (5) years related experience with a combination of accounting firm, law firm and/or public company experience.
• Advanced knowledge of US federal income tax concepts including Subchapters C and K.
• Experience with tax planning including project implementation.
• Excellent tax legal research and writing skills.
• Experience analyzing and interpreting legislative and regulatory changes to tax provisions.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
• Ability to work cohesively as a cross-functional team member.
• Proven ability to work independently, think critically, and make decisions exercising sound business judgement.
