About the position Responsibilities • Serve as a first-line supervisor to manage attorneys in the Land Law Branch (LLB). • Oversee all substantive environmental issues within the LLB, including assigning work and reviewing major work products. • Resolve complex legal issues and provide legal advice and policy recommendations to senior managers. • Handle administrative matters for the LLB, including performance reviews and personnel-related activities. • Build effective working relationships with program managers, federal agencies, and state and tribal legal contacts. • Maintain subject matter expertise regarding CERCLA and RCRA corrective action and disseminate current policies and guidance. • Represent ORC during regional or national meetings addressing Superfund issues. • Mentor new and less experienced LLB attorneys. Requirements • Possess a J.D. or LL.M. degree from an accredited institution. • Be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any U.S. jurisdiction. • Hold an active bar membership in good standing. • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, demonstrating leadership or management experience in environmental law. Nice-to-haves • Experience with the Superfund program and/or corrective action under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). • Knowledge of environmental statutes and regulations.
