Clinical Pharmacist, Drug Pipeline Cost Modeling
About the position
Responsibilities
• Ownership of the VDP process including biannual and weekly VDP review, formulary alternatives, VDP savings analysis, VDP strategy including number and type of lists, VDP marketing material and collateral.
• Work with internal stakeholders to design models including data collection procedures for research (e.g. Biannual VDP drug placement project).
• Drug Pipeline modeling, including model frameworks, assumption research, development and presentation of results.
• Client Presentations of results of pipeline modeling, support client teams in formulary strategy decisions.
• Design analytical plans that specify procedures for conducting data collection and research (e.g., pipeline PMPM modeling, drug level assumption setting for pipeline modeling, clinical effectiveness and research for VDP modeling).
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to determine key research questions related to drug strategy.
• Utilize relevant information resources (e.g., on-line sources; share-point; medical journals; industry literature, etc.) to conduct literature searches and answer questions.
• Demonstrate understanding of healthcare system nuances (like population characteristics, payment reimbursement etc. for commercial, Medicare and Medicaid).
• Demonstrate and apply understanding of health care industry trends and their drivers in determining monthly alternatives.
• P&T support (e.g. developing materials and presentation of material to P&T committee).
• Be aware of current and emerging trends in clinical information, treatment guidelines and formulary review strategies.
• Work with internal teams to implement updates Optum affordability initiatives and clinical program lists.
• Regularly synthesize drug tiering and utilization management strategies to develop collateral used in consultant and client communications.
• Assist in training and mentoring of pharmacy residents, students, and interns.
• Other activities as determined by the VP of Formulary Strategy.
Requirements
• Pharm D degree.
• Current, unrestricted Pharmacist license (any state).
• 2+ years of experience working as a licensed pharmacist in a clinical setting (not retail pharmacy).
• Experience working on or with a Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) committee.
• Experience writing and presenting monographs and class reviews.
• Computer proficiency at the intermediate level and experience with MS Office (specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Willing or the ability to travel up to 10%.
Nice-to-haves
• Successful completion of a Pharmacy Residency program.
• Experience in formulary strategy including understanding of the formulary placement decisions.
• Experience working within a PBM or Managed Care.
