About the Role
The Logistics Specialist - Long-Haul Dispatcher is responsible for managing and coordinating long-haul truckload operations to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of freight across our customer's network. This position focuses on planning, scheduling, and monitoring full truckload (TL) shipments while serving as a key liaison between carriers, drivers, and internal stakeholders.
This is a highly collaborative, on-site role that requires strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking skills to ensure seamless execution of daily transportation activities within a dynamic logistics environment.
What the Candidate Will Do
• Plan, schedule, and dispatch long-haul truckload shipments to meet service, cost, and delivery objectives.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for truckload carriers and drivers, providing load details, updates, and operational support throughout transit.
• Monitor and track all truckload movements, ensuring on-time pick-up and delivery performance.
• Collaborate with our customer's production, warehouse, and transportation teams to align truckload planning with inventory and shipment priorities.
• Proactively identify potential delays, capacity challenges, or service issues and implement corrective actions to maintain delivery commitments.
• Optimize lane utilization, equipment capacity, and routing to maximize efficiency and reduce cost.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Transportation Management System (TMS) and ensure data integrity for all TL movements.
• Support KPI tracking and continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, carrier performance, and operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and our customer's internal quality and operational guidelines.
• Participate in daily planning and operations meetings to review upcoming loads, capacity needs, and network performance.
Basic Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 4+ years of experience in truckload dispatching, transportation planning, or logistics operations or Undergraduate Degree with 2+ Years of Experience in truckload dispatching, transportation planning, or Logistics experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting logistics operations within a manufacturing or chemical network.
• Familiarity with SAP, FourKites, or other logistics tracking/ERP tools.
• Strong understanding of full truckload (TL) operations, route optimization, and carrier management.
• Experience negotiating truckload rates in the spot market
