Systems Administrator - III (REMOTE)
Position Title: AIX Systems Administrator (Remote/Hybrid)
Location: Richmond, VA
Position Status: 1-Year Contract (Possible Extension or Contract-to-Hire)
Pay Rate: $65-$75/hr
Position Description:
We are seeking a skilled AIX Systems Administrator to join our team supporting a key financial institution in Richmond, VA. In this role, you'll play a critical part in maintaining and enhancing enterprise Unix environments that support national financial systems and secure operations.
You'll collaborate with leading technology professionals to automate workflows, optimize performance, and implement best practices for system administration. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly technical, and passionate about automation, system performance, and reliability in large-scale Unix environments.
Required Skills & Experience:
• 8+ years of professional experience in Unix operating systems (AIX preferred)
• Strong knowledge of AIX LVM, LPAR profile creation, PowerVM administration, and NIM (installation, configuration, and automation)
• Experience with operating system and clustering component configuration
• Proficiency in automation and orchestration tools such as Ansible, Python, Aria, and UNIX shell scripting
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban
• Expertise in network concepts and AIX/VIOS network administration, including Ethernet, VLANs, TCP/IP, vSwitches, SEAs, and NFS client/server administration
• Experience with LDAP, SUDO, and SSH/SFTP administration
• Strong skills in system performance tuning, troubleshooting, and monitoring
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, taking initiative to identify, track, and resolve issues
• Experience applying analytics on system performance and incident data to predict and prevent issues
Preferred:
• Familiarity with networking and storage technologies in enterprise financial environments
• Experience identifying and reducing toil in large-scale operating systems
Responsibilities:
• Perform day-to-day System Administration tasks for AIX environments
• Automate software lifecycle management for OS components, configuration management, and support tools
• Implement and maintain system automation for reliability and efficiency
• Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues across Unix and AIX environments
• Monitor and tune performance to ensure system stability and high availability
• Analyze system data and trends to proactively prevent outages
• Participate in Agile sprints and cross-functional technical initiatives
Schedule:
• Initial schedule: Monday - Friday
• Will transition to either Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday
