Job Summary
Responsible for assisting with prescription refill requests based on physician‑managed medication refill protocols. Handles the prior‑authorization process for medications that require documentation of medical necessity. Maintains patient records, ensures test results fall within practitioner protocol, and communicates with practitioners and other health team members when questions or concerns arise.
Department Description
Samaritan’s Centralized Refill Center processes prescription refill requests for our primary care clinics. Following strict protocols, the center fills or prepares the refill for approval, streamlining the process to ensure patients receive refills quickly.
Experience, Education & Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One of the following required:
• Certified Medical Assistant with prior medical back‑office experience or completion of a MA/Certified Medical Assistant program.
• One (1) year of Pharmacy Technician experience.

• Team Building – Ability to work with and communicate effectively on a multidisciplinary team, maintaining constructive relationships over time.
• Social Perceptiveness – Ability to work with a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics, understanding age‑related differences and maintaining a non‑judgmental attitude.
• Service Orientation – Apply knowledge of various resources/models of recovery to assist and care for others.
• Clerical – Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, file and record management, form design, and other office terminology.
• Confidentiality – Knowledge of HIPAA laws and the ability to maintain confidentiality of protected health information.
• Time Management – Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work to meet required time frames and follow up on pending issues, performing multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
