JOB SUMMARY The Network Administrator is the principal engineer for all routing, switching, and data communication technologies employed by The Grand Traverse Band and its subsidiaries. They work with the other IT administrators and management to ensure secure and available communication. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Be the primary contact for network communication technologies and infrastructure. • Manage product lifecycle based on industry trends and established depreciation methods. • Manage accounts with ARIN (American Registry for Internet Numbers), domain registrars, FCC, and MDOT to ensure continued operation of internet peering agreements and the Grand Traverse Band’s municipal ISP. • Implement, test, and maintain established disaster recovery plans. • Develop and maintain a non-production test environment. • Develop and maintain network automation and policy engine for both wired and wireless. • Maintain documentation of network systems, system configuration, operational procedures, network policies, network procedures, network topology and hardware inventory. • Provide support in documenting server management data flows, and server architecture. • Assist IT Management in defining server and network frameworks for existing and new systems. • Assist IT Management in network planning, development, and implementation of server policies across multiple platforms. • Work with the Security Administrator to ensure compliance with multiple overlapping regulatory domains. • Be the initial point of contact for service provider contracts including maintenance agreements, sales quotes, and internet peering agreements. • Work with IT Management to develop an annual capital expense and operational expense budget. • Promote superior customer service. • Provide after-hours support as needed. • Cross-train other IT staff and provide support in related areas of operations. • Perform any other duties as assigned by the IT management. OTHER NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Thorough understanding of network segmentation (802.1q). • Thorough understanding of DNS, both public and private. • Thorough understanding of network addressing and routing, including virtual routing protocols such as VRRP and DVR. • Thorough understanding of link aggregation and redundancy protocols, including but not limited to MSTP, LACP, RPFC, and EAPS. • Thorough understanding of modern wireless technologies in a campus setting. • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP, DCHP, DNS, and static IP addressing. • Thorough understanding of RADIUS, EAP, and NEAP protocols. • Knowledge of network cabling including fiber optics splicing and connectors. • Aptitude with VMWare virtual switches and port groups • Extreme Campus Fabric or equivalent SDN. • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. (Including Visio) • Basic knowledge of Mac OS and MAC networking. • Must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate both verbally, and in written form. • Ability to interact well with the existing management team by being a good listener, a team builder, and an advocate of knowledge sharing and cross-training. • Must be a team player with a positive attitude. • Must be highly organized and able to handle multiple tasks at one time. • Must be able to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner by prioritizing obligations and time. • Must possess the ability to work with various personalities while maintaining impartiality. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Network Technicians EQUIPMENT TO BE USED Multi-line telephone, computer, printer, copier, and fax. DRIVING REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid, Michigan driver’s license and be insurable by the Tribe’s insurance carrier. LICENSE REQUIRMENTS Must be able to pass background check and obtain a Gaming License upon hire. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be physically able to operate a variety of job-related machines and/or office equipment. Must be able to move or carry job-related objects or materials, exceeding 50 lbs. TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS Must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional. Must be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Must be able to work productively under strict time restraints with variable deadlines. WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able and willing to work in a crowded, loud environment. Must be able to handle being under constant surveillance. May be required to work in small, enclosed spaces. Must practice all safety policies, procedures and standards as set by OSHA. Some travel may be required for the needs of the business or for further training regarding the department or the business. Use of personal vehicle will be required for job and employee must be insurable by the company.
