As a Data Center Operations IT Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers, providing technical support, and managing incidents to minimize downtime and ensure maximum efficiency.

Job Overview

This position requires previous experience in Helpdesk, Desktop Support, PC Technician, or Data Center operations, with IT certifications being highly desirable. The role involves working on a Contract to Hire basis, with 4-day shifts of 10 hours each, scheduled from Sunday to Wednesday or Saturday to Wednesday. As a Data Center Operations IT Technician, you will be responsible for initiating incidents for critical business functions, managing medium, high, and critical incidents, and escalating incidents to Tier II for major incident investigation. You will also be responsible for monitoring server and network system monitoring tools, responding to alarms, and ensuring the proper operation of environmental equipment, security equipment, and system resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate incidents for critical business functions and manage medium, high, and critical incidents, including triage and assessment of impacted systems.
  • Escalate incidents to Tier II for major incident investigation and notify and escalate to support teams using Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Send Communications Matrix Notifications for high and critical incidents and monitor server and network system monitoring tools, responding appropriately to alarms.
  • Monitor environmental equipment, such as generators, UPS, PDU, air conditioning, and building water supply, to ensure proper operation.
  • Complete documentation of problems/issues, including how they were uncovered, who was affected, and the steps taken to resolve them.
  • Monitor security equipment and situations, reporting issues/irregularities to the proper organizations/persons and tracking and monitoring security concerns.
  • Open trouble tickets and assign them to the appropriate support group, granting physical access to hosting centers both locally and remotely.
  • Administer established security policy for physical access to hosting centers and execute programs and jobs on mainframe computers using an operator display terminal.
  • Control production using Automated Scheduling Systems to ensure jobs are completed on time and manage tape library functions, including pulling and hanging tapes for production, test batch processing, and managing off-site storage.
  • Prepare and submit status reports detailing system operations and review the Change Management Forward Schedule of Change, updating Requests for Changes (RFCs) as needed.

Essential and Preferred Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have previous experience in Helpdesk, Desktop Support, PC Technician, or Data Center operations, with IT certifications being highly desirable. You should also possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. A strong understanding of IT principles, including enterprise monitoring, data center operations, and hosting center management, is essential. Preferred qualifications include CompTIA certifications and experience with IT service management tools and technologies.
