Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Long Term Substitute Teacher - MLL to join our team for the 2023-2024 school year. As a substitute teacher, you will have the opportunity to work with students in a variety of settings, providing instruction and support in the specific area of specialty. Key Responsibilities

  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Norwalk Board of Education
  • Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines to maintain an advantageous learning environment
  • Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge and maintain accurate and complete records as required
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences and keep parents up-to-date on student progress through interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences
  • Assess student learning on a continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed
  • Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress and use assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner
  • Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, parents, and students
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in TESOL
  • Active TESOL K-12 (111) or Bilingual Certification
  • Expertise in writing instruction with an in-depth knowledge of language and written language development
  • Demonstrated experience with implementing progress monitoring measures
  • Proven experience working with teams of educational professionals in collaborative settings
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment development aligned to the CCSS
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills in working with students and their families
  • Sensitivity, understanding, and appreciation for the needs and strengths of a diverse school district and community

  • Experience working with students in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including a daily rate of $110 per day for the first 39 days and $254.38 per day for 40+ days.
