Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for instrumental music classes, including Music Appreciation/History, Music Theory, AP Music, Arts Academy Jazz Ensemble, Advanced Concert Band, and Brass Studies.
- Provide instruction in proper instrumental techniques, music theory, and music history, with a focus on developing students' skills in reading, performing, and appreciating music.
- Conduct ensembles at multiple grade and ability levels, including jazz and concert bands.
- Teach music theory and history, including Western and non-Western traditions, and guide students in developing their critical listening and analytical skills.
- Prepare students for performances, adjudications, and competitions, and provide individualized instruction and feedback to help students improve their skills.
- Collaborate with other music teachers and arts educators to develop school-wide productions, performances, and events.
- Participate in afterschool rehearsals and evening performances, and be available to support students and colleagues as needed.
Essential Qualifications
- New York State permanent, initial, or professional certification in Music.
- Ability to read and play brass instruments music/scores with excellent sight-reading skills.
- Experience in teaching and training in brass instruments in both classical and contemporary situations.
- Experience in performing on brass instruments in both classical and contemporary situations.
- Ability to conduct ensembles at multiple grade and ability levels.
- Ability to teach music theory from beginner to AP levels.
- Fluency in multiple music styles, including Classical, Contemporary, Pop, Rock, Jazz, and improvisation.
- Knowledge of Western and non-Western music traditions, including music history and theory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching middle school students.
- Background in jazz and/or contemporary music education.
- Experience with curriculum development and implementation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.
